Smooth CE 7.4 Treadmill (**** Out Of *****)
Once upon a time, if you were willing to spend some money because you were looking for a good quality elliptical trainer, you could have chosen the Smooth CE, made by the German manufacturer, Kettler.
It has a smooth ride and a 48 pound flywheel and is very well constructed. There did used to be a few lower priced Smooth models to choose from for those on a budget, but they were discontinued along the way for various reasons.
You may remember the ME and PE. Smooth does still make other pieces of equipment, too, such as treadmills and home gyms. The Smooth line has a great reputation in the fitness industry and with its customers, and many have relied on its machines for product satisfaction over the years.
But now if you want a Smooth ride on an elliptical for less money, you’re in luck because the company has put out a few new machines that cost less than the original. They are made in the United States and have a cool look of quality, much as you would find in a health club.
The quality is real and the piece is very stable, resting as they do on thick tubular frames. You move on them with ease, feeling as if you’re accomplishing your goals. Remember that you’re more likely to use such an elliptical trainer because your confident on it. You don’t get that feeling of trepidation as you do with a shaky machine that makes you feel as if you’ll trip or fall.

So what about these three newcomers that are made in America? One of the models is the CE2.1 and another is the CE3.2. These are on the lower end of the price range. While high in quality for small machines, they are still small and you would have to consider their durability when deciding whether to purchase them.
They are, after all, somewhat lightweight. For the money, they are a good buy, though, with ergonomically designed foot pedals to keep your pedaling comfortable so that you avoid foot injury. They also have the LED dot matrix screens that so many commercial ellipticals sport.
If you’re looking to make a substantial investment in your home gym equipment, then consider the Smooth CE7.4. It has all the benefits of the other two new models–the great build, foot pedals, easily read screen–but is much bigger and heavier.
In fact, it weighs 210 pounds. Of course you must consider the space you have available and what you’re looking for; but if the space and the desire are there, this just might be for you. It’s not worth skimping if by making room and paying a bit more you get this amazing trainer. All in all, if you want to mimic the functionality and beauty of an elliptical trainer you might find in a top-notch gym without spending a fortune, you’ll want to take a look at the new additions to the Smooth line that give you the value of the Smooth CE at less cost.
Bottom Line: These are the Smooth CE2.1, the Smooth CE3.2, and the real winner–the Smooth CE7.4. If you choose the Smooth CE7.4 Elliptical Trainer, you’ll really be getting a winning piece of equipment at a budget price. You–and your wonderfully toned body–will be the real winners!
