When you think about toning and exercising you may not always think of the hip muscles first, but maybe you should. There are so many different activities, for which we rely on our hip muscles, that we just could not perform without the strength of our hip muscles. Walking is only one of them.

Could you imagine if you could not even take a stroll with ease? We owe it to ourselves to include hip exercises in our exercise routines and these simple exercises are just the trick. Do what we already know we rely on our hips to do. Simply take a walk. You don’t have to spend hours on the tread mill just go outside and walk the block, go to the mall and walk from anchor store to anchor store or even the grocery store.

Have you ever thought of how far you actually walk from shelf to shelf in a department or grocery store? Take a pedometer with you next wee. You will be amazed at how far you have walked. Do a series of lunges throughout the day. Lunges strengthen your hips and increase you overall flexibility at the same time.

Get up from your desk and do three or four lunges, do a series of lunges before or after you get out of the car or just include them in your stretching routine before your daily walk. It’s simple to squeeze in a few lunges and strengthen your hip muscles. The squat is also a simple exercise that will help you give your hip muscles a workout. You simple stand with a good posture and bend your knees bringing your fanny as close to the ground as you can.

You may not recognize this as a squat because you do it every day. Remember everyone always telling you to lift with your knees not your back? Well that is a squat and it is a great way to build your hip muscles as well as improve your overall core strength. My favorite way to strengthen my hip muscles has got to be leg lifts. I do a series of leg lifts every night when I am reading.

Lying on my side I can lift first one than the other leg multiple times with out missing a word. Combining exercise with the other things you enjoy doing everyday is easy when you have a plan. Doing leg lifts also increase the muscle tone we are all looking for, it’s amazing how well you will look in your jeans after setting and completing a good exercise routine.

Of course if you have the ability to get to the gym or even set up your own you will want to start doing leg presses. Leg presses are not only good for leg strength they work well on your hip muscles. Remembering that our hips are the quiet strength that we need to get out of bed in the morning will help you to get to the gym and tone and strengthen your hip muscles.

Just because you haven’t heard “Wow you have great Hips” doesn’t mean you can forget about taking care of them. And who knows that compliment just might be in your future.

Another great exercise for hips is to do Pilates.  Make sure to check out our Pilates machines Reviews.
