Posture means position of the body. It is not given much importance and not viewed as a serious problem. The fact is that poor posture can affect a person’s height and cause severe back problems in later stages of life.
Fortunately, poor posture is a disease that can be rectified by specific posture exercises that aim at stretching out the muscles around the neck and shoulder regions.3 exercises that help in improving the postures are listed below.
1. Shoulder Release- Sit on a chair with your back straight and feet on the flat on the floor. Your arms should be straight, by your sides and palms facing the body. Now take a deep breadth, and as you inhale lift your shoulders up to the level of the ears.
At this point, hold your breath for a few seconds and then breathe out slowly, and gradually bring the shoulders to the normal position. This exercise will show immediate effects and u will see the difference in the first sitting itself. The muscles of the spinal cord and the neck are stretched out, which increase the height and pliability of the muscles.
2. Turkey stretch- Sit on a chair with your back straight, head held up and look forward. Hold your chin and take a deep breadth. Keep your hand on the chin as the head rises up. Perform this exercise a number of times. This exercise will help in stretching out the muscles on your back.
3. Turkey Stretch and Turn- This exercise is good for your both your back and shoulder muscles. Sit on a chair with your back straight and move your chin into your neck region without bending your back.
Take a deep breath and turn your neck slowly to the right without altering the position of the back and shoulder. Stay still and inhale deeply. Now breathe out, bringing the neck to the starting position. Now perform the same exercise moving the neck to your left. Repeat this exercise another three times.
When postures can be easily corrected by simple exercises, why not do the exercises regularly. Stretching out exercises help in improving the poor postures and flexibility of the muscles.
