Women are always trying to achieve or maintain the classic “hourglass” figure. However, keeping a slim figure AND building muscle can be a challenge for women, especially when building and toning the abdominal muscles. Listed below are five general exercises that will target your abs without losing the desired feminine shape…
1) Belly Button – Pulls Required Materials: nothing.
This is one of the easiest exercises to tone the abs. All you have to do is lay on your back and suck in your stomach so your belly button will move inward, towards the floor.
2) Ball Crunches – Required Materials: an exercise ball.
Ball Crunches don’t work a specific area, but instead will give you full abdominal results. To start; take a seat on the exercise ball, making sure your feet are flat and secure on the floor. Next, lean back slowly, and when you have your balance, push your body upwards using only your feet and abdominal muscles.
3) Air Pedals – Required Materials: nothing.
This exercise is as simple as riding a bike – literally. Just lay on your back and lift your legs in the air. Make the movements of riding a bike with your legs. Lift one leg up, and pull the other leg closer to your torso. Then, in a circular motion, switch the position of your legs.
4) Side Leg Lifts Required Materials: nothing.
When doing this exercise, you’ll feel an obvious pressure on your inner leg muscles, but the abs are also worked. Simply lay on your side and brace your upper body by resting on your elbow.
Then lift your top leg toward the sky and hold it for a few seconds. As your muscles develop and become stronger, you’ll notice that you’re able to hold your leg up for longer periods of time. Lastly, lower your leg back down SLOWLY. Going slow will work those muscles instead of just letting your leg drop. Do this several times before switching sides and working the opposite leg.
5) Vertical Leg Lifts Required Materials: nothing.
This is the most difficult ab exercise listed and needs to be done AFTER you have developed some strength in your abdominal muscles. To do a Vertical Leg Lift: lay on your back and lift your legs and cross them in the air. Next, pull your uppper body up towards your legs using just your abs.
